7.3 The tens: 20–90
7 · Numerals — counting, dates, "the second one" · a plain-language guide to Assyrian (Sureth) grammar
Now a different ending: -i turns a unit into its "ten." Very regular:
| Assyrian | Assyrian | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | esri | 60 | eshti |
| 30 | tlay | 70 | shavvi |
| 40 | arpi | 80 | tmani |
| 50 | khamshi | 90 | echchi |
Again the unit number is doing the heavy lifting: khamsha "5" → khamshi "50," eshta "6" → eshti "60," shavva "7" → shavvi "70." Only "20" (esri) and "30" (tlay) drift a bit from their units. All invariable.
