7.2 The "-teens": 11–19
7 · Numerals — counting, dates, "the second one" · a plain-language guide to Assyrian (Sureth) grammar
Take a unit number and bolt -sar onto the end (it's the old word for "ten," the same way English "-teen" is a worn-down "ten"):
| Assyrian | Assyrian | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| 11 | khaddessar | 16 | eshtasar |
| 12 | taryessar | 17 | shavvasar |
| 13 | taltasar | 18 | tmanessar |
| 14 | arbasar | 19 | echchasar |
| 15 | khamshasar |
You can hear the unit number inside most of them — khamsha → khamshasar, eshta → eshtasar, shavva → shavvasar. A couple got reshaped over time (tre → taryessar, tla → taltasar), so those two are worth an extra look. Like the small numbers, the teens are invariable — one form, no gender.
