8 · Particles — the little connecting words · a plain-language guide to Assyrian (Sureth) grammar
| bucket | what it does | sample | see |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adverbs | where / when / how something happens | lakhkha "here," adiyya "now," jalde "quickly" | Adverbs |
| Quantifiers | how much / how many | kulle "all," raba "much," hech "none" | Quantifiers |
| Prepositions | glue a noun to the sentence — on / to / from / in… | al-kursi "on the chair," ka-babi "to my father" | Prepositions |
| Connectives & conjunctions | join words and clauses — and / but / because / if | u "and," bas "but," en "if" | Connectives |
Two small extra buckets round it out: a few predicative particles that behave a little like verbs (bassa "that's enough"), and two enclitic tag-words for "also / too".
The one bucket with real machinery is prepositions — some of them take endings. Everything else is plug-and-play vocabulary.
