5 · Nouns — naming things, and making them plural · a plain-language guide to Assyrian (Sureth) grammar
- 5.2–5.4 (the noun shape-patterns: CaCa, CoCa, CCaCa … dozens of them, ~50 pp) — historical/comparative sorting of nouns by vowel skeleton; zero speaking payoff. You never need a noun's "pattern" to speak.
- 5.9–5.11 (derivational affixes of Aramaic background; loaned suffixes; morphological adaptation of loanwords) — word-formation and etymology reference; useful to a lexicographer, not a beginner-intermediate speaker. High-frequency results (like bar-nasha) are taught directly instead.
- 5.6–5.8 (minor singular endings -e, -u, and no-ending nouns) — small closed lists (lele "night," kalu "bride," mendi "thing"); the individual words are picked up as vocabulary rather than as a rule.
- 5.12.6 (Caucasus gender differences) & the -ate/-áy contraction detail — sub-dialect variation and phonological bookkeeping; recognize-only.
- 5.14 fine mechanics (the -et enclitic-vs-inflection debate, stress shifts, the d- oblique series dav/daha/diman) — theoretical morphology; the practical -et rule and its contractions are what's taught.
