3 · The Copula — "am / is / are" (and "was / were")
3 · The Copula — "am / is / are" (and "was / were") · a plain-language guide to Assyrian (Sureth) grammar
From Khan Ch. 3. Speaking value: HIGH (essential) — this is the backbone of every "X is Y" sentence you'll ever say.
The copula is the little word that means "am / is / are." In "I am happy," "she is here," "they are teachers," the bolded word is the copula. Assyrian has a full set, one form per person, and — importantly — it usually comes at the end, after the thing you're describing.
Any grammar term that trips you (predicate, deictic, clitic…) is explained inline the first time it shows up, and collected in "Grammar words in plain English."
